- Does anyone out there know how I can directly connect two computers by
- their modems. This is what I've tried so far:
-
- 1. Start a terminal emulation programs on each computer
- (Hyperterminal to be exact)and dial one modem's number with
- the other.
-
- 2. When the RING indicator appears on the computer, I type
- 'ATA'. The modems connect and handshake and everything seems
- fine (although one modem reports a connection at 19200 and it is
- only a 2400 baud modem.)
-
- 3. The problem comes when I start to transfer files with Zmodem.
- My throughput is very low and my efficiency is only about 40%.
-
- 4. Also, my modem's are connected using 8 bits, no parity and 1
- stop bit. XON/XOFF software handshaking and no error control
- (because one modem doesn't support it.)
-
- I have transferred files from my UNIX computer using sz no problem. My
- efficiency is usually close to 100%, so I don't think that it's the
- lines. Perhaps I need some other setting or perhaps ATA is not the
- command that I should use to have the other modem pick up...I don't
- know.
-
- Thanks for any advice that you can offer.
